Description

Description

What is it: The Washington D.C. National Mall (East Mall) Walking Tour is a GPS-guided, personal walking tour around one of the most popular places in Washington D.C. - the East Mall of the National Mall (the area from the U.S. Capitol to the Washington Monument).

Why see the East Mall first: It's an amazing place which will define your visit. All the venues on the tour are Washington "must sees". Incredible museums (among them 9 Smithsonian museums), historic sites, and places where history is still being made, are lined up one after the other. Architecturally impressive buildings are massive, museum collections rich, exhibits astounding, historic sites intriguing and the views spectacular!

Why do it: Don't waste valuable vacation time wandering around America's capital city on sensory overload trying to figure out what to do first or next. With the National Mall (East Mall) Walking Tour App you can maximize your enjoyment of these rich offerings by deciding what you really want to see and how to get to it. Explore at your own pace - it's the best way to enjoy Washington, D.C.

Features:

- 20 incredible national treasures to see and visit along the walking tour route, each richly described - the architecture, the history, and what's inside.

- Descriptive text for each venue helps you decide whether you want to venture in.

- Additional in-depth information offers insight of historic interest for those who want to know more.

- Tour by Map. A GPS map tells you where you are and where the other sites you want to see are relative to your current position. Zoom in to see a close-up. Tap a purple pin to see where that site is relative to your location.

- Tour by List - 2 ways. 1. Numeric Order: Beginning with the first, or begin at any point on the list. 2. Randomly: Select a site from the list, the picture confirms what it looks like. Read the description. If it's what you want to see, go back to the map and see where it is relative to your current position and then go to it.

- A How to Use the App feature provides important time and ticket tips about the venues. It's really helpful in planning ahead. All venues are free, but some require advance timed reservations or passes.

- Free slide show with great interior shots and interesting architectural detail.

Beware

:
I was looking for a simple app describing attractions in Washington, D.C. You know, the museums, hours, phone numbers, other attractions and maybe some text describing the city's history, information on transportation, etc. What I got was an application that's completely dependent on the Internet. This is of no use on an iPod Touch without constant Web access. Heck, the app even dials the Internet when you tap `Tips/How to Use.' You can't even learn how to use the application without going on the Web. The brief description of The Walking Tour on iTunes says nothing about a requirement for Internet access, but it does say the app is compatible with the Touch. It may be a decent program, but unless you've got an iPhone it's mostly a waste of $1.

:
A series of bad post card photos, a map too small to read if you are over 40. Go on line, get the info you want, print out maps, do it all for free. These are the apps that give "app" a bad name.

Not worth it

:
Doesn't show where the monuments are. Pretty much a waste of a dollar.
